While "think, question, and create" is the motto of Marin Academy, it is the second part of our mission - challenging each person to accept the responsibilities posed by education in a democratic society - that inspires the Conference on Democracy. The CoD, now in its 15th year, provides an array of perspectives on political, social, economic, and environmental issues that our communities face locally, nationally, and globally. This year the COD will coincide with our annual Thacher Lecture. This lecture series is made possible by an endowment created in honor of Marin Academy's founding Board of Trustees President, James F. Thacher. Jim retired in 2007 after more than 35 years of service to the school
