While FOLKS is an affinity group, this session welcomes people of all identities.
Have you ever been in a situation where you wish you had the skills to defend yourself? Learning these skills will not only make you more empowered, but also allows you to resist against oppression that sometimes is created through violence and fear. FOLKS has teamed up with a local organization, IMPACT Bay Area, to teach defense and have a discussion about the connection between self defense and racially targeted violence. We know that many assaults can be prevented or deterred using awareness, body language and voice. Students learn to recognize and honor their own intuition, develop assertive body language and powerful verbal skills and physical strike techniques.
