We all love to be right. We pride ourselves in speaking and knowing the truth. But, in this era of "fake news" and "alternative facts," how do you know what's true? How does uncertainty about truth and the manipulation of truth by powerful people and agents undermine our democracy? In our session, we will discuss how to spot fake news, the broader influence of the media, and the power and polarization that this creates in politics and our broader democracy today using current events including the Kavanaugh hearings as an example. This session is open to all and we will be as unbiased as possible; our goal to look at how truth and power interact, not to make any final determinations about truth.
